China-South Asia Legal Forum was held successfully in Kunming

   On December 14-16, 2016, with the theme of "Strengthening Legal Interconnectivity &Jointly Building ‘Belt and Road’", China-South Asia Legal Forum was held successfully in Kunming, Yunnan province. Mr. Wang Lequan, President of China Law Society, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a protocol speech. He stressed that we should fully take advantage of the guidance and guarantee function of rule of law, gather cooperation consensus with legal consensus, promote political mutual trust with legal mutual trust and create sound legal environment for the construction of Belt and Road.

Mr. Chen Lianfu, Vice Prosecutor General of Supreme People’s Procuratorate presented a protocol speech at the opening ceremony

Mr. Zhang Taiyuan, Vice-Provincial Governor and Director General of the Bureau of Public Security of Yunnan Province presented a protocol speech at the opening ceremony

Mr. Zhang Mingqi, Vice President of China Law Society, Member of the Party Leadership Group of China Law Society, Member of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) and Vice Chairman of the Law Committee of the NPC hosted the keynote speech session of the forum

 

    Senior legal officials from South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, including Mr. Surendra Kumar Sinha, Honorable Chief Justice of Bangladesh, Mr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Minister of Justice of Sri Lanka, Mr. Adam Mohamed Abdulla, Honorable Justice of Supreme Court of Maldives,    Uza. Aishath Bisam, Prosecutor General of Maldives, Mr. Raman Kumar Shrestha, Honorable Attorney General of Nepal, Mr. Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, Hon. Justice of Supreme Court of Nepal, Mr. Keshari Raj Pandit, Executive Director of National Judicial Academy, Mr. Win Myint, Deputy Attorney General of Myanmar, Mr. Prashant Kumar, President-Elect of Bar Association of India& LAWASIA President, Ms. Pinky Anand, Additional Solicitor General of India & Vice President of Bar Association of India, were present at this forum and relatively made protocol and keynote speeches. Mr. Zhang Mingqi, Vice President of China Law Society, Member of the Party Leadership Group of China Law Society, Member of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) and Vice Chairman of the Law Committee of the NPC hosted the keynote speech session of the forum. Mr. Chen Lianfu, Vice Prosecutor General of Supreme People’s Procuratorate and Mr. Zhang Taiyuan, Vice-Provincial Governor and Director General of the Bureau of Public Security of Yunnan Province respectively presented a protocol speech at the opening ceremony.

    The Forum was held by China Law Society and organized by Yunnan Law Society and Yunnan University. At the forum, more than 30 speakers from China and South Asia and Southeast Asia participated in discussions focused on the following five topics: “Comparative Studies of the Constitutions and Legal Systems of China and South Asian Countries " " Legal Cooperation in Investment and Financing of Fundamental  Industries between China and South Asia " " Consensus and Cooperation over Trade and Investment Development between China and South Asia " " Sustainable Development Policies and Laws in China and South Asia " and " China-South Asia Trade and Investment Dispute Settlement Mechanisms and Services”.

    Mr. Qiao Hanrong,President of Yunnan Law Society, Mr. M. Fazlul Karim, Bangladesh Ambassador to China,Ms. Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, Deputy Head of Mission of Embassy of Pakistan to China attended the forum. There were more than 200 representatives ranging from judges, prosecutors, lawyers, legal workers to legal scholars from 14 countries, including China, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Maldives, Myanmar and other countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia present at the forum.

    During the forum,representatives from South Asian and Southeast Asian countries will be organized to visit the Yunnan Provincial Higher People's court, the Yunnan Provincial People's Procuratorate and the Yunnan Provincial Department of Justice to carry out exchange activities. After the Forum, the 1st Course of China - South Asia Legal Training Base will be held in Yunnan University. 23 judges, prosecutors, lawyers, scholars from South Asian countries will attend the Course, where Chinese legal system and the latest development of rule of law in China will be introduced. The Course will last for two weeks.
