In 2003, China-Spain Forum was co-initiated by government leaders of China and Spain. The Forum aims to encourage exchanges in politics, economy, culture, sport, law and other fields of common interest, enhance mutual understanding and trust, and promote the relationship between China, Europe and Latin America. The Forum has 7 committees on affairs in politics, economy, culture, sport, law, regional and city development as well as gender equality.
Proposed and co-propelled by China Law Society, the Legal Committee of China-Spain Forum was established in 2006. On the Chinese side, Mme. Liu Yang, Executive Vice-President of China Law Society, serves as President, and Mr. Gu Zhaomin, Director-General of Overseas Liaison Department of China Law Society, assumes General-Secretary. Mme. Liu Yang and Mr.Antonio Garrigues, President of Garrigues Law Firm of Spain, signed a memorandum at the Legal Committee Meeting of the 3rd China-Spain Forum held on March 21 and 22, and the Joint Declaration of Cooperation and Development of the Legal Committee.
On November 27, 2007, Mr. Sun Zaiyong, Vice-President of China Law Society, headed a delegation of 20 members to the Legal Committee Meeting of the 4th China-Spain Forum. The participants brainstormed on such topics as “Legal Protection for Private and Public Property”,“Effective Protection Mechanisms for Industrial and Intellectual Property Rights”, and “Lawyer Cultivation: the Skills and Competence to Practice”. In an atmosphere of friendship, the Chinese and Spanish sides concluded a final document.
On April 28, 2009, the Legal Committee Meeting of the 5th China-Spain Forum was held in Chengdu, Sichuan. Mme. Liu Yang, Executive Vice-President of China Law Society and the Chinese President of the Legal Committee of China-Spain Forum, and Mr. Rocio Belda, Professional Associate of Garrigues Law Firm addressed the opening ceremony of the Forum.Over 40 government officials, lawyers, scholars, diplomats, and entrepreneurs attended the Event. They discussed topics of common interest such as competence and arbitration laws.
The Legal Committee Meeting of the 6th China-Spain Forum was held in Barcelona, Spain on July 5, 2011 and Mme. Liu Yang, Executive Vice-President of China Law Society, attended the Meeting. The topics of the Meeting were “Legal Framework for the Management of Commercial Activities” and “Legal Framework for the Management of Labor Relations”. The participants discussed franchise and legal practice in distribution and the reform of labor law systems against the backdrop of the international financial crisis.
On September 12, 2013, the Legal Committee Meeting of the 7th China-Spain Forum was held in Beijing. Mme. Liu Yang, Executive Vice-President of China Law Society and Mr. Manuel Torres, Director of Shanghai Office and Partner of Garrigues Law Firm attended the meeting.About 100 scholars, lawyers and entrepreneurs participated in the event. They discussed “Legal Framework for Joint Chinese-Spain Investment in Third Countries.”
